Weaving tales of football discourse and drug enterprises, Jawnino replicates a Ballon D’or level form in his recognisable dialogic fashion. The spectral artist, existing somewhere between emcee and raconteur skips over the musical representation of rolling thunder.

Jawnino

The tumbling hi-hats and sharp snares are inextricably meshed here in a way that equally meshes trap and grime signifiers. This macaronic synthesis pulls more towards the nocturnal traits of trap music whilst the aforementioned percussion is trademark grime. If dub music is the shadow of reggae then 'Sweden Freestyle' is the shadow of grime. This song casts a long shadow, with the vocal sample lingering in the air like the smoke of my Marlboro touch, the barely human vocal utterances are a splash of grey in this dark shade.

Up top, Jawnino stands front and centre like a lone number 9, cushioning the rapturous production underneath him with a deft first touch–"I’m with Chamber splashing KR/I was watching them shots like Raya."

Moving the ball along, he handles topics of newfound success and familiar love interests with the proactiveness of a deep-lying playmaker. As I write this piece in the basking sunshine, a silhouette of Jawnino’s next move is hard to decipher but this intoxicating freestyle will keep me entranced as long as the replay button works.
