inQUIZitive: Lo Williams

It’s time for a brand new edition of our inQUIZitive series, where we give rising stars the chance to share more about themselves with both old and new fans. This time, we sit down with Birmingham raised singer-songwriter, Lo Williams.

A fresh face in the music scene, Lo brings a vibrant energy, from her eye-catching style to her soulful performances. Known for her collaborations with local creative hubs like Girl Grind and Aston Performing Arts Academy, she’s been building her confidence as a performer and now, with original music in the works, Lo is stepping into her own.

Drawing inspiration from artists like Raveena, Erykah Badu, and Tiana Major9, her sound is rooted in soulful vibes with a modern twist. Having worked closely with Birmingham-based creatives DJ KingPin and Madi Saskia, Lo is ready to share her unique voice with the world, and we couldn’t be more excited to catch up with her.

We hope you enjoy getting to know Lo Williams as much as we did!

Lo Williams

It’s been fascinating to watch your journey as a creative unfold - for those who aren’t as familiar, can you tell us a bit more about who you are, and what you do?

I'm a multi-faceted creative. My background is a visual artist, specialising in graffiti and mural art. Music has always been a passion and runs side by side with my creative background. After signing up to a music development course in 2023, this kickstarted my music career and I wanted to take it to another level.  I'm a vibrant person and the majority of my songs embody self empowerment and life experiences.

Whether it’s as a musician, or an artist, can you tell us a bit more about your inspiration? What helps you get those creative juices flowing?

I love story telling, using music and words to illustrate feelings and emotions. Tank and the Bangas, an American band are a true inspiration in terms of their storytelling and humour, as well as using metaphors, which I love. Listening to them always gets me motivated.

Your debut single ‘Shimmer’ has been well received, and many are calling for more music. But, first can you tell us a bit more about your decision to to pursue a career as an artist, and when you first discovered your musical ability?

From an early age I've always written music. I remember writing songs about heartbreak at the tender age of 5, never actually knowing what I was singing about as I'd never experienced it! I got to the point in my teens where I'd written so many songs and used to vibe to them forgetting that no-one else had ever heard them. One day I attended my friend's live performance and I was dared to go up to the open mic section and it was surprisingly well received and opened up many opportunities, which really encouraged me to pursue a career in singer songwriting.

Okay, now for some quick fire questions. If you had to pick 3 tracks that summarise your musical influences, what would they be?

Put Your Record on by Corinne Bailey-Rae, Boxes and Squares by Tank and the Bangas & Telescope by Hiatus Kaiyote.

You can have a studio session with one artist, and one producer. Who you linking up with?

Stormzy & Pharrell Williams

You’re only allowed 3 clothing brands/designers in your wardrobe. What are you wearing?

Louis Vuitton, Jayley Collection, Pretty Little Thing

You’ve got VIP invites for these 3 festivals… Coachella, Glastonbury & Afro Nation. Which one are you going to and why?

Glastonbury because it seems good vibes.

You’ve got the choice of 3 artists, dead or alive, to be your mentors for the rest of your career. Who are you picking?

Prince, Jacob Collier & Tarriona (Tank) Ball

At the age of 22 years old, it seems you have experienced and achieved, so much as a creative. What would you pick out as a milestone moment?

Being asked to perform of gigs as a newcomer within 12 months of me deciding to pursue a music career, has been truly humbling.

And, finally, it’s only right that we wrap this up by finding out what’s next. Can you share with the fans any plans you have in the works?

I have a great team in my producer/manager KingPin and Madi Saskia, a music artist in her own right, who have not only supported me throughout the early days, but I am working closely with them to find my sound and create more bangers.  This will hopefully lead to more live performances and the release of a couple more singles in the next few months, with an EP also in the pipeline.
