inQUIZitive: Catch

It's time for a brand new edition of the 'inQUIZitive' series. As we provide another upcoming star the opportunity to give their fans, both old and new, the opportunity to get to know them a little better, this time round we sit down with South East London rapper, Catch.

The fast rising rap talent is a breath of fresh air in the rap game. She is authentic, and unapologetically herself....two stand-out qualities which shine through in her music.

With popular tracks such as 'Baby Away' and 'Crickets' continuing to get numbers, Catch is ready to embark on an exciting chapter in her career, and after shutting down her 'Voice Of The Streets' freestyle on BBC Radio 1XTRA, it was only right that we caught up with her!

We hope you enjoy getting to know Catch, just as much as we did.

In 5 words, describe the city that raised you - and tell us your most distinctive memory growing up there?

‘Secretly felt superior being from London (6words lol soz)’ - My most distinctive memory growing up in Lewisham was Lewisham McDonald’s 🙂 I was a terror around there apparently.

You’re only allowed 3 clothing brands/designers in your wardrobe. What are you wearing?

Stone Island, Louis Vuitton & Nike. In that order.

You get home and your family are playing music…what 3 tracks can we expect to hear?

Essence by Wizkid & Tems, Warm by K-Trap and Talking The Hardest by Giggs.

You’ve got the choice of 3 artists, dead or alive, to be your mentors for the rest of your career. Who are you picking?

JAY-Z!, Potter Payper & Future.

Your diet is limited to two meals. You can pick one that you have to cook, and can pick one to be cooked for you. What are you going for?

Oxtail! And chicken wings 😎 I’m gonna need some Hennessy too.

Growing up in South London you’ve seen some incredible talents from all fields (not just music) rise to success - who from your area inspires you to achieve your dreams?

Damson Idris for sure! I love Snowfall. DBE! & my boy Nana, he’s sick at football, trust me.

You’ve seen co-signs from some popular UK talents since emerging into the scene including Kenny Allstar & more. It is clear to see you have natural rap talent, but when did you discover your musical ability?

I’ve always loved music. Growing up I played the drum kit for my mum's church. I’m a very good drummer, so I guess I’ve always had a relationship with music. As for rap, it’s something that came second nature to be fair. Always done it, probably always will.

It’s clear to see that you’ve mastered the drill sound, but your latest single ‘July August’ see’s you experiment with your sound - can we expect to see more of this with future releases?

I’m very versatile and I love taking on challenges. I love experimenting so you’ll definitely see me/hear me play with different sounds and flows. With that being said, I hope to do it without losing my essence of what makes me me.

It’s been an impressive breakthrough year so far with ‘Crickets’, Baby Away’ and now ‘July August’ - what can we expect to see next from you?

My BBC Radio 1XTRA freestyle was also a huge moment for me. I’m hoping to continue in this upward trajectory and mix with a few artists. Maybe a project…

And finally, do you have any milestones, targets or exciting plans that you can share with your fans?

Just watch ❤️
