Bugzy Malone reflects on success, survival and ownership on ‘Make It Maintain It Part 1’

The King of the North, Bugzy Malone, returns with 'Make It Maintain It Part 1', a new album that finds the Manchester artist, actor and entrepreneur taking stock of the journey so far while considering what comes next. Reflective and deeply personal, the project explores the realities of building success, protecting what you have earned and creating a legacy that extends beyond yourself.
Sonically, Bugzy continues to expand his approach, pairing the intensity that has defined his music with soulful production and cinematic instrumentation. Across the album, that contrast creates space for a more introspective side of his artistry, with stories of survival, family and ambition taking centre stage.

‘Mother 1’ is among the project's most personal moments, reflecting on the experience of nearly losing his mum, while ‘Murder’ draws on cinematic strings to give its narrative added weight. On ‘HIM’, Bugzy strips things back, allowing his storytelling to lead as he revisits the experiences and relationships that have shaped his perspective.
Elsewhere, ‘Freedom’ delivers a stirring message about breaking away from the system, while ‘Prisoner’ finds Bugzy turning to writing as a form of therapy. ‘Reina 1’ shifts the mood, pairing an Afrobeat-inflected swing with a more intimate tribute to the woman who has brought connection and stability into his life.
The focus track, ‘Ownership’, brings the album’s wider themes into sharp focus. Built around choral vocals and the repeated mantra of “power”, the track becomes a statement of independence, incorporating samples from Bugzy’s conversation with Chris Williamson. Its emphasis on ownership reflects a wider ambition to take control of his future, both creatively and financially.
Throughout 'Make It Maintain It Part 1', Bugzy speaks candidly about his time in prison, a near-death experience and family breakdown, alongside his determination to build generational wealth despite having limited family support. Rather than presenting success as a final destination, the album considers the responsibility that comes with it and the resilience required to sustain it.
With 'Make It Maintain It Part 1', Bugzy Malone delivers a portrait of an artist taking stock without standing still. By drawing on the experiences that brought him here while looking towards the future, he places ownership, personal growth and legacy at the centre of his next chapter.
