Artist Name: SAMSON

Genre: Rap

Track You Should Listen To: TWENITU

Hailing From: Borehamwood, UK

As we come to the end of September, I’m back with another instalment of ‘One’s to Watch’! This month, it’s with pleasure that I’m sharing with you an artist that will undoubtedly rise up as one of the UK’s most promising talents - SAMSON.

Born of Nigerian heritage, SAMSON grew up in a predominantly white area, that he calls “the woods”, and encountered ridicule courtesy of his peers from a young age. These experiences forced him to be okay with individuality, after trying to fit in to no avail. Eventually, he found a community of people who bear a likeness to himself, where he can comfortably create as a musician.

Describing his sound as “old food, new seasoning”, SAMSON’s “old soul” transcends through his music, bearing a sound and presence that is unique for someone of his age.

I first discovered SAMSON through a friend, and once I heard his track ‘Where’, I instantly became drawn to his booming voice and captivating delivery. When I also found out that he produces his beats himself, I knew he had something that I had to explore further. I had to hit him up and let him know that he was cold, and we kept in touch ever since.

Recently turning 22, SAMSON dropped his latest track ‘TWENITU’ in celebration of his coming of age, and it’s my favourite offering of his to date. One thing in particular I find gripping about the track is how the energy gradually builds from beginning to end. The way he spits with an effortlessly venomous cadence compliments the self-produced nostalgic Hip-Hop instrumental.

SAMSON has a unique and intriguing approach to his craft, treating it like “art” and much more than just music. When it comes to his sound, he draws much inspiration from Tyler, The Creator as well as artists such as Joey Badass, Little Simz and Chance the Rapper.

In just the short time he has been releasing music, SAMSON has earned himself co-sign’s from Kojey Radical and slowthai, as well as being featured on notable music platforms such as Link Up TV and GRM Daily.

With lots more new music to come, be sure to keep him firmly placed on your radar as ‘One to Watch’.

Connect with SAMSON on Instagram and Twitter and follow his Spotify profile to stay up to date with her latest releases.
