It's that time again…I’m back with another ‘Ones To Watch’ and this time I have a really special artist to share with you…
Working in a very much male dominated industry, it’s so important to me to spotlight incredible female artists that deserve way more eyes and ears. This artist is one of the most unique talents I’ve discovered in the past year…the incredible Eldé.
Last year, my good friend and co-founder of FEMUSIC, Crystal sent me Eldé’s Instagram profile and told me to check her out. Now, I’m not sure why but I was expecting her to be a rapper and I was waiting to hear some Nicki Minaj style heat…I couldn’t have been more wrong. I was completely blown away by her voice - soulful yet sweet. I knew straight away I had to keep her on my radar to see where she was heading next.
Diving into more about Eldé herself, she’s a 26-year-old singer, songwriter and performer (government name Jeniequa Quamina) and her sound can be described as contemporary R&B melded with futuristic sonics.
Eldé first began performing at the age of 10, with her passion for music flourishing throughout her time at Barbara Speake Stage School. She wasn't always a triple threat, but when given the chance to star as the main character in a school show, Eldé soon discovered her hidden talent and found her voice. Her love for song writing grew as she began to enter various music competitions - notably she was placed in 3rd out of 9000 acts in 'TeenStar UK' during 2015.
Eldé, charged up with the continuing streak of success she found herself with, then went on to create her own platform called “DAUPCOMIN”, where upcoming artists like herself could showcase their talents and look to build their fanbase. Ever keen to shine a light on emerging artists alike, Eldé also presented a show on community radio station Pulse 88 where she featured different artists every week for a live performance/interview.
She has notably received support from national radio stations Capital XTRA (DJ Tiiny) and BBC 1Xtra (Sian Anderson), and has plans to build upon her lengthy list of accolades for the foreseeable future.
Most recently, following on from her preceding single ‘Kumbaya’, Eldé dropped her latest track ‘Take It From Me’. With infectious production from M-Fly, the track is a refreshing “anti-love song” in all its glory. Eldé divulges “don’t let your boyfriend stop you from finding the one” - an anthem. I love the unique yet down-to-earth energy that she evokes - meeting her in person when she performed at our last FEMUSIC networking event was such a pleasure, and having her grace the event with her presence was definitely a full circle moment from the time I first discovered her.
If there’s one thing you should do today, it’s stream ‘Take It From Me’ and the rest of Eldé’s incredible catalogue - you won’t regret it…
