LIVE: ScHoolboy Q | O2 Institute, Birmingham | #CrasHTour
ScHoolboy Q has been selling out shows around the world for some years now and proves that artist’s longevity within the industry is important to be able to tour whenever you want, even if you aren’t necessarily dropping new music. After dropping his most recent project ‘CrasH Talk’ he kick started his tour out in the states, kick starting in Houston and ending in Los Angeles.
Shortly after finishing part one of the CrasH Tour, he announced his Europe tour dates on January 22nd. Starting in Dublin and ending in Moscow on the 22nd Feb.
On the 29th January Q came to Birmingham to perform at the O2 Institute and brought some of his TDE team with him. We got to see Jay Rock open up for the rapper, performing some of his hit singles; Wow Freestyle, WIN, OSOM and more. His fellow Top Dawg Ent got the crowd lit, bringing a whole vibe filled with mosh pits. It was good to see ScHoolboy keep it in the family and bring out one of his own artists rather than trying to select someone from the Birmingham scene and it was clear that his crowd respected this move too.
ScHoolboy Q’s has a very loyal fan base and ones that go hard for him, this was evident to the crowd’s reaction when he came out. The rapper kick started his set with a few records from his ‘CrasH Talk’ project and then started digging into his large catalogue. There were quite a few records that he performed that took me back ‘That Part’ was a classic with Kanye and he went onto perform ‘Break The Bank’.
It was impressive to see how he had the crowd jumping to pretty much every track and how deep his catalogue really is, Q has hits on hits to perform. It will be interesting to see if the rapper is booked at any Summer festivals to see how he performs to a more open crowd rather than an intimate venue.
