Two-and-a-half years after her sophomore project, ‘Hopeless Fountain Kingdom’, Halsey is back with her third studio album: ‘Manic’. The album, released under Capitol Records, features collaborations with Florida’s Alternative Hip-Hop artist Dominic Fike and Canadian Singer Alanis Morissette, among others. The Grammy Nominated artist has been a chart regular since her first Billboard No. 1 Single where she featured on The Chainsmokers record ‘Closer’. The album features her single ‘Without Me’, which also gained her another No. 1 Single on Billboard at the start of 2019.
The New Jersey native once again shows off her versatility by managing to combine a number of genres into the project ranging from Rock, as heard on ‘3am’, to the Country elements at the start of the track ‘Graveyard’. The album also contains a mix of Hip-Hop and R&B components on a number of tracks throughout. Expressing her vulnerable side, the self-proclaimed ‘Anti-Popstar’ confesses her insecurities allowing her audience to feel in-touch with the artist emotionally. Halsey manages to relay these personal issues/experiences in a way that brings out her strong and confident self. Though the sound of the album is erratic and shuffles through the genres, these consistent themes really tie the whole project together.
