It has now been just over a week since Vital created history in his home town of Wolverhampton with the #POWERS Headline Show. A memorable night which saw the best upcoming and legendary artists from the city perform at 'The Slade Rooms'.
Over the course of the night we saw three DJ's take the stage to warm the crowd up and spin tracks for the artists set to perform. Of course all three were Wolves based and have previously worked closely with Vital in the past. DJ Gavin Omari, DJ KingPin and DJ JayMac were the selected Disc Jockeys and they definitely got the crowd hyped.
The line up was always going to be huge with the talent that WV possesses, we saw the new generation perform alongside the Wolves town legends. Something that the city has never seen before. 7teen, Lil Hits, Sophie Lou, Raider, Jinx TouchWood, Reepa, Firing, Dimez, Heckz and the legendary Zeo all took to the stage before the headliner came to celebrate the 'Powers E.P' and his career thus far with those in attendance.
The diversity in the Slade Rooms on Easter Sunday was remarkable and a moment that will stick with many for years to come. From the audience to the artists on the bill, there was such a wide range of cultures and ages in the room, all together for one thing, the love for music, and the appreciation for Vital himself.
For some artists it was their first time performing to a crowd of this size, or just performing in general. And, for others artists, such as Raider and Zeo, crowds of this size are not uncommon.
7teen and Lil Hits were the youngest on the line up, and have performed only a handful of times between them, but the energy and talent that they showcased on the night tells me that they have huge futures ahead of them. Both only performing one track each, neither took the opportunity for granted and got a great reception.
OWTO (Out With The Old) creator, Sophie Lou, blessed the stage with a powerful and moving track. With the help of Corey Cooper to supply some impressive vocals there was never any doubt that she was going to do her city proud. After storming into the Top 20 on the iTunes chart with her latest project, she seems to have a buzz around her movement. It was only right that she came and performed in her hometown. Her stage presence and talent warmed the stage and crowd up perfectly for one of Wolves' finest, Raider.
After storming through the UK scene and developing a huge name for himself some years ag, Raider is still out here maintaining his reputation and delivering that heat. Recently, the talented MC delivered his project, 'The Prologue' and has been working closely with his Wolverhampton family. When organising the show there was never any doubt whether he would be on the bill, and there was never any doubt that he would be down to come and support Vital in their hometown. When the beat for 'Silver Scriptures' kicked in, everyone in the room knew what time it was.
Following a short interval with a quick set from Gavin Omari we were drawing closer to the finale. But, before that there were more special guests to come and turn up. The Motion Daily crew, Jinx TouchWood, Reepa and Young Firing set the crowd a light with a joint set which saw them perform some of their most popular tracks. And, if that wasn't enough...then Dimez and his unforgettable performance of the 'The Truth' and 'TRVPHXUSE' definitely increased the gas levels.
There were two acts left before Vital got his extended set underway, and these are two artists who are more than just music affiliates to him.
Heckz and Zeo having been working with Vital for several years. With Heckz stepping into the music scene around a similar time and then going onto to produce a number of tracks, and the entire POWERS E.P, it was only right that he graced the stage and performed 'Mayweather' and 'Over'. Zeo also came and shutdown. An artist who has achieved great things over the years, from E.P, to singles, to collaborative work. He has done a lot for the city, and he definitely deserved the 'Special Guest' slot.
With all of the best Wolverhampton talent featuring on the show, it was finally time for the man himself to get his set underway, but the surprises were not finished there. During the headliner's set we treated to appearances from BeeNice & Phundo Art for performances of two unreleased tracks entitled, 'Lisa' and 'All That We Know'.
Very few words can explain the work rate, determination, and passion this man carries for his craft, and it can definitely not be replicated. This is evident through his music, and performance on the night, which you can watch highlights of below.
This is not the end of these shows. Vital and his team are going to create an annual event with a similar set up and structure to the #POWERS Headline Show. It is important that real talent and hard work coming out of Wolverhampton gets the recognition it deserves, and these shows is just one way that the art forms can be showcased. History was created, but this will continue for years to come.
So, what's next for Vital? After reaching the Top 20 with the POWERS E.P and performing a Headline Show in his home city, many are asking what more can he do? But, like he said he's going to do this until he is 'Dead Or Dying'. We can expect more music and more projects from the highly talented creative, aswell as this there will be more live performances, and not just in the UK.
From May 19th - 21st you can find Vital and his DJ, Kingpin, at the 'New Skool Rules' Conference and Festival in Rotterdam. This is one of biggest international music conferences for undiscovered and upcoming talents from across the globe. New Skool Rules aims to establish an industry network between Europe and the US as well as within Europe. This conference will play a major part in the exchange of ideas, artistic concepts, beats and talents, but will also increase the network of the participants. A huge opportunity for the WV man and the team at #CGUK are excited to see what this brings for him.
If you missed out on the show then keep your eyes peeled for more live performances for all the artists involved over the course of the year.
And remember....the Wolves are howling.
