iHeartRadio Music Awards 2017: The Round Up!

March 7, 2017

This years iHeartRadio Music Awards was held at The Forum in California on Sunday 5th of March 2017. The award ceremony was hosted by Ryan Seacrest, who is a very popular American radio personality and television host. This is one of music's biggest nights that fans have been patiently waiting for ever since the nominees were revealed on January 3rd. iHeartRadio Music Awards cover the Pop, Hip-Hop, R&B, Latin, Rock, Country and more genres of music, but the 2017 awards was a very big year for Hip-Hop, which is not the normal favourite genre of the night. This year's Hip-Hop squad was lead by the 6ix God Drake, who took the awards by storm with 15 nominations (the most nominated artist). Read more to discover all the #iHeartRadioMusicAwards antics and find out how many awards the Hip-Hop scene achieved.

Throughout the course of Sunday night, iHeartRadio showcased eight performances in total. We all saw incredible performances from; Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran and more. Despite iHeartRadio focusing on Pop music, Big Sean performed on the night to represent for the Hip-Hop world. After being introduced by Snapchat mogul DJ Khaled, Ed Sheeran displayed a powerful performance of his two popular tracks 'Shape Of You / Castle On The Hill'.

Many would argue that Bruno Mars put on the best show for the night, when he threw together a medley of a couple classics. Backed up by a band wearing white shirts, Bruno sings his heart out and gets the crowd involved for his performance of 'Treasure / That's What I Like'.

Big Sean represents the Hip-Hop scene with his performance of two 'I Decided' tracks. Sean Don kick starts with his massive hit 'Bounce Back' produced by Metro Boomin (Bounce Back was certified Gold by the RIAA back in January). Then finishes off with another track from his recent album 'Moves'.

It is great to see Hip-Hop having such an impact on this years iHeartRadio awards, with Drake receiving the most nominations & awards, to Big Sean blessing the stage, the genre is definitely starting to be appreciated by a Pop based award show. Artists from the Hip-Hop scene collected many W's at the show, collecting a lot of silverware.

Drake picked up the most awards (5) on the night and to see him nominated for get nominated for 15 categories is pretty impressive too. Chance the Rapper took home the award for Best New Hip Hop - you can check out this article over at #CGUK here. It was also good to see DJ Khaled bring his Son Asahd to introduce UK superstar Ed Sheeran to perform 'Shape Of You'.
