NEW EP: @MollyMikes - Molly's World [@JackParker93]
Molly Mikes is a fresh new upcoming artist straight out of Birmingham, and he's about to make serious noise in the scene. The creative figure has been very active throughout 2016, and he is ending the year on a high by bringing us a 6 track EP which dropped on his SoundCloud at midnight today.
P110 has been a platform where we have seen him the most, he dropped both parts of his '1Take' freestyles where he reps 'Hella Finnessin', and then just 2 months ago he dropped his cold track 'A Bit Of Molly' all on the Midland's platform. For his latest release we saw some cold visuals get put out, Mikes teamed up with Lewis Dixon to get this one out, and it came as something fresh and different as opposed to the 1Take's. The Birmingham rapper raised the bar with his production quality, both sonically and visually. It was at this point where he showed his diversity when it came to the art. We now have a EP full of material of high quality. In due time he's going to be a huge name within the game.
The EP was released on multi platform DJ, Jack Parker's SoundCloud. You may be familiar with Jack's name from BBC WM, Amazing Radio and Silk City. A very influential figure in Birmingham's underground music scene, and as of late we have seen himself and Mikes work closely together, bringing him through for a quick appearance on his Thursday night set at Silk City, regularly spinning his tracks on his shows on all radio shows and bringing him through to events. Molly Mikes recently shut down sets in Sheffield, and more recently at the Purple Party which was hosted at Rainbow in Birmingham. I witnessed this performance first hand and was stage side. The tall, dominating figure definitely knows how to get a crowd hype, as I'm sure you can imagine if you have listened to the EP.
2. Seen A Lot
5. IDRWK (I Don't Really Wanna Know)
6. Dance & Party (BONUS)
This EP definitely brings a feel good vibe, but is extremely diverse and shows Mikes' versatility when it comes to his art. You have the jump up tracks which are due to get the crowd gassed, but he also has a few tracks which comes with a slightly more chilled vibe.
Molly's World kicks off with a very 'in your face' track and as you listen further the vibe becomes much more mellow. For example, to go from Mananar to IDRWK shows his versatility and the difference in Mikes' flow shows how the EP becomes much more relaxed.
It seems that his sound and work has developed from his P110 1Take's and seems to have found a new style of rap. The instrumentals we see him spitting over on this EP are very unique and he has definitely changed his sound.
#CGM's top track: Payphone - A difficult choice as there isn't one track on the EP that I could pick out as the weak link, and every track has been worked on to a standard where is it difficult to pull any flaws. After witnessing 'Payphone' live this Saturday it stands out as the top track on the EP. A track that I feel which will be widely appreciated.
