Marnz Malone balances vulnerability and rawness on ‘I Wish I Could Sing’
Marnz Malone has established himself as one of the notable prospects in UK rap, developing his voice through projects including 'Maktub', 'Tinas Boy' and 'SABR' while continuing to create music during his time in HMP. Since his release, he has continued that run with 'Yaqeen', his February mixtape which reached No. 36 on the Official Albums Chart.
Now, Marnz returns with 'I Wish I Could Sing', a 14-track project that expands the world he has been building through a wide-ranging cast of collaborators from across the globe. The project features J Hus, Skillibeng, Byron Messia, Stardom, Clavish and Teeway, bringing different perspectives and sounds into Marnz’s distinct UK rap framework.
The project was introduced with 'Morgan Rogers', accompanied by visuals that offered the first glimpse into the direction of the new body of work. Marnz followed that with 'Unorthodox', featuring J Hus, where the pair trade sharp writing and intentional references across a track that highlights Marnz’s attention to detail as a lyricist.
Elsewhere, 'Shelly' sees Marnz link up with Skillibeng for a faster-paced record that shifts the energy of the project. 'Saxaphone', featuring Byron Messia, takes the project in another direction. Byron opens the track with soulful, infectious vocals before Marnz enters with his verses, creating a more restrained moment within an album that moves between different tempos and moods.
That willingness to experiment is central to 'I Wish I Could Sing'. Across 14 tracks, Marnz moves between raw street reflections, introspection, vulnerability and more energetic collaborations, using each record to explore another side of his sound. The result is an intricate body of UK rap that feels wise, emotive, raw and honest. Marnz Malone has once again used his writing to capture the experiences around him, while allowing himself room to explore the full range of his musical possibilities.
