Lil Nas X reflects on his journey with ‘World’s Greatest’
Lil Nas X returns with 'World’s Greatest', his first single in 18 months and a deeply personal release that reflects on the journey that has taken him from his beginnings in Atlanta to becoming one of the world's most recognisable artists.
The song was first introduced through a personal message from Lil Nas X's late mother, Tamikia Hill, to whom he dedicates both the track and its accompanying visual. Her presence gives the release an emotional weight, framing 'World’s Greatest' as both a celebration of his achievements and a tribute to the person who played an important role in his life.
Written entirely by Lil Nas X and produced by C.WRAY and Steve Rusch, the track finds Montero looking back at the distance he has travelled while acknowledging the challenges that have come along the way. Rather than simply celebrating success, he uses the record as a reminder to keep moving forward when the road becomes difficult.
That sense of reflection carries into the accompanying video, filmed in his hometown of Atlanta and directed by Phillip Youmans. The visual brings together different points in Lil Nas X's story, creating a meeting between his past and present as he looks back at where he came from.
'World’s Greatest' arrives as Lil Nas X's first release since March 2025, making its return feel significant beyond the music itself. After spending more than a year away from releasing new material, the track offers a glimpse into his mindset as he begins another chapter.
