GENER8ION & Yung Lean bring ‘STORM II’ to the MTV VMAs
GENER8ION and Yung Lean are set to take the stage at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, marking their first-ever VMA performance with the world premiere of 'STORM II'. The 2026 ceremony takes place in Los Angeles on Sunday 28th September at 12:30AM [BST].
The performance continues the pair’s expanding audiovisual world, bringing the cinematic universe surrounding 'STORM' to a live setting for the first time. Yung Lean will step forward as the lead vocalist and central protagonist, bringing his raw, melancholic delivery and visceral storytelling to a production designed around controlled chaos.
That world is rooted in the concept of an all-boys British school in the year 2034, with the performance set to translate the disordered, angsty atmosphere of 'STORM' into an immersive live spectacle. It marks another chapter in the collaboration between GENER8ION and Lean, connecting music, film, choreography and visual art into one cohesive world.
The performance follows a significant year for the French multidisciplinary duo, whose work on 'STORM' has earned recognition across three major VMA categories including Video of the Year, Best Direction for Romain Gavras and Best Choreography for Damien Jalet, with both GENER8ION and Yung Lean receiving three nominations apiece.
From Leeds to Los Angeles, the VMA stage represents another international moment for GENER8ION and Yung Lean as they continue to push the boundaries between music and audiovisual art. Their debut performance will sit alongside a wider lineup featuring artists including Madonna, LISA, RAYE, Shaboozey, Gunna and Sienna Spiro.
With 'STORM II' receiving its first live rendition on one of pop culture’s most recognisable stages, GENER8ION and Yung Lean are bringing their cinematic world directly to the VMA audience.
